WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF HOWLIN’
Howlin’ was born in Antwerp, Belgium. A country that’s never been particularly interested in doing things the obvious way. A place where contradictions somehow make perfect sense.
Maybe that’s why, at Howlin’, we’ve always preferred finding our own way.
Our roots in knitwear go back to 1981, when we began producing traditional Scottish knitwear.
In 2009, Howlin’ was born, giving us the freedom to build something entirely our own while staying true to the craftsmanship we’ve always believed in.
Today, our collections are made across Scotland, Ireland and Belgium. Three places with different histories and different skills, connected by the same respect for quality, craftsmanship and making things that last.
Good yarns. Strange ideas. Timeless craftsmanship. And a little cosmic twist.
Magic in Every Stitch.

Scotland has been setting the standard for knitwear for generations, and we’re proud to have been part of that tradition since 1981.
Since the start of Howlin’, our goal has been to bring a fresh, slightly twisted approach to Scottish knitwear while respecting its rich heritage. Keeping the best of traditional techniques and combining them with new technology, colours, patterns and ideas.
In an increasingly fast and automated world, we prefer slowing things down. It’s a niche, we know. But we like niche products. A lot.
Rather like a small independent record label releasing hand-stamped 7-inch records with personal liner notes. The beauty is always in the details.
Every Howlin’ garment is individually handled throughout its production, from the first stitch to the final pressing and folding.
All our yarns are carefully sourced according to the highest quality and sustainability standards. We like to keep our footprint as light as possible. Earth is still our favourite planet.
Our natural yarns come from local Scottish mills, some of which still complete every stage of yarn production under one roof. From grading, scouring and dyeing the fleece, through colour blending, carding, spinning, twisting and balling, everything comes together to create this unique 100% pure Shetland yarn.
A quality often imitated, never duplicated.

Over the years, we’ve been working closely with skilled craftspeople in Ireland, continuing a knitting tradition that goes back centuries. Together we produce the highest quality knitwear using local Irish yarns.
We have to admit, at first we got some strange looks when we came up with our ideas. But that changed over the years. Now it’s simply that familiar smile when they see a new Howlin’ design.
We’re grateful to be part of this unique craft. Not as a museum piece, but as something that continues to evolve.
Producing in Ireland (as in Scotland and Belgium) not only means you have a truly unique product in your hands, it also means that the people making your garments are well paid and well looked after.

Chocolate. Tintin. Fries. Mussels. New Beat. Jupiler.
The clichés tend to pile up but Belgium rarely does.
It’s a place where contradictions somehow coexist. Where strange ideas are often treated as perfectly sensible ones. A mindset we’ve always felt at home in.
Alongside our Scottish and Irish knitwear, part of the Howlin’ collection is made in Belgium. Shirts, jackets, pants, accessories and, above all, our jersey.
Our shirts, jackets and pants are designed and crafted in Belgium using carefully selected fabrics from some of the world’s finest mills.
Our jersey tells a different story.
Rather than sourcing ready-made fabrics, every Howlin’ jersey begins in Belgium, where we design, develop and knit each fabric ourselves. A way of working that remains exceptionally rare in today’s industry.
Small batches. Close attention to detail. Products designed to outlive seasonal trends.
